The Presbytery of Giddings-Lovejoy, regional governing body of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) will sponsor a Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration on Saturday and Sunday, January 16 and 17, 2010, at the Northminister Presbyterian Church, 1570 Chambers Road, Dellwood, Missouri. The Workshop will take place from 9:00 a.m. till 12:30 p.m.

The subject of the Workshop will be “Examining Race and ‘Post-Racial’ Society”. Sylvester Brown, writer and former columnist for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, will be the Workshop Leader.

Panalist for the Workshop/Discussion include:

Reena Hajat, Director of the Diversity Awareness Partnership; Redditt Hudson, former police officer and ACL –EM Program Associate; Dr. Van Vaughn, Missouri Baptist University expert in Cross-cultural Counseling; William Tate, Professor of Education in Arts and Sciences, Washington University, St. Louis; and Juvenile Court Judge Jimmy Edwards, Founder of Innovation Concept School.










Issues to be explored:
• What does the election of Barack Obama really mean?
• What happens to race-based opportunities in a post-racial society
• Strategies for empowering the economically poor, oppressed and disadvantaged
• What can individuals and communities do to address the education gap?
• What can be done about crime, disproportionate incarceration and recidivism?
• How close is the nation to achieving Dr. King’s “Dream?”

The Worship Celebration will take on Sunday, January 17, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Northminster Presbyterian Church. Brown will speak on “Defining A Racial Agenda in a ‘Post Racial’ Society.”


Admittance to the workshop and worship celebration is free to the public. A free-will offering will be received to support North County Churches Uniting for Racial Harmony and Justice. A Reception will follow the Worship Celebration.

The public is cordially invited to participate in all these free events.
