Can the Post recover? Are there other contenders?

What follows is an interesting article posted on the STL Activist Hub looking at the Post-Dispatch (post-Lee Enterprises) and ponders its future in St. Louis. It reminds me how foolish I've been these past few months writing, preaching and trying to rally the troops to save the great institution. Here's a snippet:

"In particular, Lee brought the idea of a "community advisory board" that would guide the editorial and reporting processes. Says journalism professor Don Corrigan in the article,"It might make sense to have an advisory board at a little paper where the editorial writer is unsure of himself, or knows very little about national issues ... But it makes no sense at a metropolitan newspaper like the Post-Dispatch where the editorial writers are presumably literate, well-informed and perceptive journalists." Furthermore, a quick glance at the members of the Review Board chosen for St. Louis show that it is made up in large part of people (like Mayor Slay, his chief of staff Jeff Rainford, former police chief Joseph Mokwa, and millionaire investor Paul McKee) who already call many of the political shots in the city, and already would have no trouble getting the attention of political reporters. Thus, a small town media company from Iowa bought the Post-Dispatch and immediately decided that it needed to do a better job of framing its content around the opinions of the people in power. And all of this took place after the Post was already
famous (or infamous) for passing on gossip tidbits
from Mayor Slay's public relations guru Richard Callow that pretty clearly served a narrow range of people's political interests."

Funny how fast the Left went from "Jesus was a community organizer!" to "community organizing is astroturf!"

Finally the Post shows some judgement in ridding themselves of an uneducated Race Hustler and liar. There is no place for a racist in any public forum. You should have taken the 4 weeks pay, you have nothing in the way of integrity to preserve. You have gotten away with disgracing decent people and dead cops too long! Adios B.

I am a liberal democrat and Sylvester Brown did nothing but hurt the cause. He is racist, lacks a journalism degree, and should have never been hired by The P-D.
Good riddance Sylvester. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out!
Hopefully, The P-D will hire someone more like Gregory Freeman.

Do you not find it complicated at the very least that you are running Google ads for the Post dispatch on your blog?

You were on a mission to save the Post? I guess that's because of your great friendship with "your mentor" the racist Bill McClellan.

How do you reconcile your relationship with Bill "I hate Black people" McClellan with your self proclaimed principled stance on race?

You know, you don't seem principled or even self-aware you seem greatly confused. I mean you are posting stuff from the St Louis American? Good Lord--you used to despise them and they despised you.

Maybe you should take this time off to really figure yourself out.

The Community Advisory Board was Lee's doing? It always just sort of seemed like something that slipped under my and the rest of St. Louis' noses at some undetermined time but was startling once we realized that it was there. I certainly was never sure why or as of when it was instituted.

Bill McClellan is racist? I read his columns whenever I can, I've met the guy on numerous occasions, and that doesn't sound like him at all. Did I miss that memo?

Print media has been dying for a long time. It's time to put it out of its misery.

I'd be willing to bet good money most of the Anonymous posters on here come from a certain room 200.....

Anyway, most smart people in St. Louis can see past the screams of racism from the keyboard crusaders out there. And since most smart people in St. Louis aren't keyboard crusaders, and actually get out of their mom's basement, they are the ones who matter. We all wish you good luck Sylvester. Maybe you will join one of those other publications and get the last laugh, as the Post continues it's sad downward spiral into irrelevance and eventual non-existence.
